San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Makes Largest Donation Ever to Cancer Center

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians donated $3 million to the Loma Linda University Cancer Center in California — largest financial contribution in the center’s history. The money will aid in their construction of an integrated medical oncology center and biospecimen laboratory, reported the Redland Daily Facts.

“Tribal members were among the very first patients of Loma Linda University Medical Center when it opened in 1906,” said Jacob Coin, a tribal spokesman, to the Redland Daily Facts.

The center will be named the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Medical Oncology Center, and the lab, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Biospecimen Laboratory.

With this donation, the tribe’s total contribution to the center comes to $4.5 million.
