Senate Hearing to Address Internet Gaming: ‘What’s at Stake for Tribes’

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee is holding an oversight hearing this afternoon on Internet gaming pertaining to the Department of Justice’s recent opinion concerning the Wire Act, which could impact tribal rights.

The hearing will be webcast live at 2:15 p.m.

Seneca Nation President Robert Odawi Porter will lead the first witness panel. Porter has been vocal in supporting New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposal to legalize statewide gaming. Now he will weigh in on online gaming—specifically the law prohibiting interstate wire transmissions of gambling-related communications, excluding all sporting events and contests.
