The National Museum of the American Indian’s New York facility, located at the George Gustav Heye Center in Lower Manhattan, is opening their “Small Spirits: Dolls from the National Museum of the American Indian,” exhibit on February 19th.
This exhibition features more than 100 dolls from Native cultures across the Western Hemisphere, and explores what their significance is today.
The NMAI’s Gustav Heye Center is located at the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, a historic building that serves as the museum’s exhibition and education facility for both permanent and temporary exhibitions. The NMAI also hosts music and dance performances, symposia and films, all exploring the diversity of Native people and their cultural traditions, from prehistoric to modern times.
