St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford Urges American Indian Youth to Be Healthy

St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford will visit Washington D.C. to encourage American Indian youth to eat healthy and engage in physical activity daily, reported UPI.com.

The Cherokee Nation member and athlete will meet with Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. Along with 30 students from tribes across the country, southeast Alaska and Tuba City, Arizona, they will plant indigenous vegetable seeds in a garden called: “The Roots of American Agriculture.”

The garden is part of the People’s Garden at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) headquarters in Washington. The USDA created the People’s Garden Initiative to challenge its employees to establish People’s Gardens at USDA facilities worldwide or help communities create gardens, according to the campaign’s website.

Meanwhile, the Obama administration will promote “Fuel up to Play 60,” an interactive program for youth to help their schools offer healthy food and encourage them to engage in 60 minutes of physical activity every day. First Lady Michelle Obama will also be advocating “Let’s Move!“–her national effort to end child obesity within a generation and help America raise a healthier generation of kids.

Bradford and Vilsack will be accompanied by Robin Schepper, executive director of Let’s Move!; Jacqueline Johnson Pata, executive director of the National Congress of American Indians; Keith Moore, director of the Bureau of Indian Education; and Janie Hipp, senior adviser to Vilsack with the USDA Office of Tribal Relations, reported UPI.com.
