State to represent Cherokee Nation in dispute with poultry industry

In an uncommon legal move, the Cherokee Nation has agreed to allow the state to represent its interests in a legal dispute with the poultry industry over the alleged pollution of the Illinois River and its watershed. It did not waive sovereign immunity or grant any rights to the state over the tribe’s interests in the lands, water or other natural resources in the watershed.
