Staunton Public Library in Virginia Hosts Genealogy Workshops

Staunton Public Library will be holding a total of four genealogical workshops beginning July 11. The first two will be taught by Janie Sherman, a professional genealogist on July 11 and July 18. She will introduce the basics of genealogy research, organization, and vital records.

On July 25, Sharon Hodges, a professional genealogist and author, will present a program titled “Understand Census Records.”

The final genealogy workshop will be held on August 1 when historian Lauranette Lee and archivist Paige Newman present a program titled “Unknown No Longer: A Database of Virginia Slave Names.” The two will also discuss other genealogical resources available at the Virginia Historical Society.
