Sumatzkuka Appointed Tribal Treasurer for Hopi Tribe

In a press release July 12, 2011 Robert Sumatzkuku was announced as tribal treasurer for the Hopi Tribe.

The Arizona tribe’s Chairman LeRoy N. Shingoitewa believes Sumatzkuku’s experience will be beneficial to the tribe.

“Robert has worked with various governmental entities,” said Shingoitewa. “He has worked on various projects for Hopi villages, the Hopi Tribe and both the state and federal government.”

Sumatzkuku will be overseeing all funds in association with the tribal council, depositing funds, making payments, maintaining an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, providing reports regarding the funds and more.

He was previously the community service administrator (CSA) for the Village of Hotevilla, and held similar positions with the Village of Walpi and Upper Village of Moenkopi.

Sumatzkuku is from the Village of Moenkopi and attended Southern Utah State College, now Southern Utah University. He majored in accounting and minored in business administration. He later attended Northern Arizona Institute of Technology.
