On August 27-28 the Thunder Mountain Lenapé Nation will host Mr. Daune Martin Sr., among other members of the Cante Tenza Okolakiciye (Strongheart Warrior Society), so visitors can learn from the incredible Warrior Society. This gathering takes place in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, at their festival grounds.
On the Thunder Mountain Lenapé Nation’s site, they describe the Warrior Society they’re honoring thusly; “Based on Pine Ridge Reservation, Cante Tenza, works tirelessly to protect the Lakota People, enforce and restore treaty rights, civil rights, and sovereignty of Native people, and protect Native culture across Turtle Island.”
Some of the things visitors will learn at the weekend event include:
- Lakota drumming, songs and dance.
- The significance of the White Buffalo to the Lakota
- Ancient Lakota history and stories
- Lakota resistance struggle
- Life on the reservation
There will be dinner on Saturday evening and both breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Families that attend are being asked to bring food to add to the feast. They’re also asking for a $20 donation per day, with proceeds going to the Cante Tenza Okolakiciye.
