Time Traveler: Tracing The Battle of Little Bighorn on Horseback

Everyone’s heard of the Battle of Little Big Horn, even if some know it simply as ‘Custer’s Last Stand’.  Few people, however, have gotten a chance to mount a horse on the ground where the actual battle took place and learn from experienced guides what the most famous single battle in America’s history was like for those who fought it.

Go Native offers a horseback tour of the site of the battle, offering you the chance to experience that fateful day from the Cheyenne and Lakota perspectives.  Following the events of the battle from moment to moment, tracing the very ground where Crazy Horse crossed the Little Bighorn River to engage Custer’s 7th Cavalry Regiment, the battlefield ride offers an unparalleled chance to re-learn the truth about this legendary June day.

The battle ended on Last Stand Hill, when Custer had five remaining companies who were all but annihilated within an hour, with the final 28 survivors making a mad dash through Indian lines south for the river.  Their desperate run ended when they were trapped in a box canyon called “Deep Ravine”. No man was left alive, yet strangely, to this day no remains have been found on this site.

This past December, an American flag Custer and his men carried into this fateful battle was auctioned off for $2.2 million by the Detroit Institute of the Arts to support it’s Native American Arts department.
