A webinar to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the ratification of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) is just getting under way, hosted by the Assembly of First Nations (AFN). The afternoon session, which runs from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., is a live panel discussion on the ramifications of the document. It is open to all, and starts at 1:30 p.m., ending at 4 p.m.
Topics being covered include the legal effects of the declaration; understanding free, prior and informed consent, and the declaration’s relevance to resource development. The webinar is sponsored by the AFN, Amnesty International, Grand Council of the Creed (Eeyou Istchee), Canadian Friends Service Committee and KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives.
