The United Auburn Indian Community (UAIC) has awarded over $138,000 to 20 different community organizations in Placer and Nevada Counties in California. The organizations were carefully selected to receive funding by the UAIC Community Giving Fund.
“The United Auburn Indian Community is proud to have the ability to invest in the community,” said David Keyser, chairman of UAIC, in a statement. “All of the local organizations selected for this round of our Community Giving Fund offer very deserving programs. The Tribe hopes these donations can enhance their ability to serve local Placer and Nevada Counties.”
Among the organizations selected for funding are Auburn Area Christmas Basket Program, the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe, Elijah’s Jar Food Pantry, Senior L.I.F.E. Center and Friends of the Roseville Library. All organizations were selected based on their ability to improve underserved educational programs and social services.
In May, UAIC awarded over $142,000 to nearly 50 community organizations. Organizations include Meals on Wheels, Boys & Girls Club of Auburn, Rocklin High School, Placer SPCA, Discovery Museum and dozens more.
The UAIC Community Giving Committee has focused its 2011 grants on educational programs and social service organizations whose work significantly impacts struggling and underserved persons and families. Applications from organizations based outside of Placer County were also accepted provided the services of the organization significantly affect the residents of Placer County.
Over the course of six years, the UAIC Community Giving Program has given away nearly $9 million to nonprofit organizations supporting needs in education, health, performing and visual arts, environment, community/ economic development and social services. The Community Giving Program is led by a committee of six Tribal Members and has been in existence since 2004.

The United Auburn Indian Community created the Community Giving Program in 2004 and owns and operates the successful Thunder Valley Casino Resort. A federally recognized Indian tribe, the United Auburn Indian Community is a sovereign government, making the establishment of its philanthropic fund even more unique.
