University of North Dakota Plans to Retire Fighting Sioux Nickname

According to the Associated Press, the University of North Dakota has finally agreed to retire the Fighting Sioux nickname by the end of the year.

Plans to transition the mascot were put on hold after the state legislature passed a requiring the school to keep the Fighting Sioux moniker, but the NCAA made lawmakers reconsider.

The AP said some sports have started using an interlocking ND that’s been the school’s secondary logo for years.
