Wanted: Ontario Videographers Age 13–25

The Ontario First Nations Integrated Health Promotion Strategy is offering prizes for the top videos submitted by the province’s First Nations youth for one- to three-minute videos covering smoke-free communities, nutrition and physical activity.

“We are looking for videos that are unique, upbeat, culturally appropriate and respectful, but most of all we want to see you take this strategy to another level and make it your own,” the agency said in a release.

Videos can be of someone “talking to the screen about the dangers of smoking,” children running and playing to demonstrate physical activity, or someone “cutting up salads like a ninja,” said the announcement.

The contest is under the auspices of Our Time Our Health, a website run by a coalition of First Nations organizations that focuses on nutrition, physical activity and smoking cessation. Member groups are the Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians, the Nishnawbe-Aski NationGrand Council Treaty #3 and the Union of Ontario Indians.

Videos will be screened and judged by members of the Ontario First Nations Young Peoples Council and the winner announced at the 2011 Chief of Ontario Health Forum in February.

First prize is an xBox Kinect bundle, second prize is a handheld video camera and third prize is an iPod Nano. Videos must be e-mailed by 5 p.m. Jan. 31. See flier for more details.
