Head to the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis this weekend, June 22-23, for a celebration of Native American cultures through art, music, dance, demonstrations, food and more. Featuring Native performers and more than 150 artists from more than 60 tribes, Indian Market and Festival is a one-of-a kind cultural experience in the Midwest.
Among those performing this weekend are Shelley Morningsong, Northern Cheyenne, Twin Rivers (Adrian Wall, Jemez Pueblo/Ojibwe, and Ed Kabotie, Hopi/Santa Clara Pueblo), five-tme world champion hoop dancer Tony Duncan, Apache/Hidatsa/Arikara and Estun-Bah, and Shawnee story-teller Fred Shaw.
In the Dogbane Family Activity Area, Museum-based art activities for all ages to make and take home will be offered. Inspired by the Guitars! exhibit, color guitar fans and make guitar pick pendants. Create your own ledger art and, an Indian Market favorite; create sgraffito “scratch art” like Jody Naranjo’s pottery.
And of course there's all that incredible Native artwork to see and appreciate.
