The U.S. Travel Association, the Web Marketing Association, and Travel Weekly awarded the Chickasaw Nation for excellence in web-based design and social media platforms on its website ChickasawCountry.com.
The Nation won two Destiny awards at the U.S. Travel Association’s annual Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations conference, where more than 160 entries were submitted for various categories and a total of 17 awards were given out. The Nation won two of them, both Destiny awards, for the Best Travel Website ChickasawCountry.com and for Best Use of Social Media Platform.
The Nation was also cited by the Web Marketing Association’s 2013 WebAward for Outstanding Achievement in Web Development, and by Travel Weekly, earning a Silver Magellan Award for its website ChickasawCountry.com.
The awards, judged by J. Walter Thompson, an internationally recognized marketing and communications firm, focused on the sites’ creativity, marketing, and local and regional promotion.
“Our congratulations go out to all those who worked on these projects,” said Bill Anoatubby, the Chickasaw Nation’s governor in a press release. "Earning these awards is a tribute to the outstanding teamwork, dedication and innovation of Chickasaw Nation staff and our partners.”
ChickasawCountry.com, which helps readers explore the Oklahoma countryside, was designed to promote south central Oklahoma as an international destination in the heart of the America. It provides detailed information about lodging, restaurants, attractions, recreation and events to take in while staying in Chickasaw Country.
The site also features social media tabs on its front page, promoting Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. Readers browse Chickasaw Country virtually, through photos, video and information sharing.
Guests posted photos of their visit on Instagram showing the foods they ate, like chicken wings, and other activities, pumpkin painting, and attractions, cars displays from the 1950s.
Readers could also explore Chickasaw with the sites blogger Lindsey Davidson on “Canvasing Chickasaw County.” Davidson uses five categories – do, see, shop, eat and stay – to help guests do some interactive exploring.
